Old Wine in Older Bottles
Old Wine in Older Bottles is based on Bach’s Saradande from the c-minor cello suite. The few notes of Bach, some of the most beautiful few notes ever written, serves as the skeleton. And like our own skeleton, they give shape to the piece while remaining hidden: Buried within the orchestral texture. The harmonic language is not strictly tonal and the intimacy is replaced by moments of exuberance. I am grateful for the Kingston Chamber Orchestra and Andy Meyer its conductor for premiering the piece. And hope that JS will not take offence.
